NCCF was founded by Dan Waeger in 2005 shortly after he was diagnosed with cancer. For the first 10 months of Dan’s treatment, the origin of his cancer was unknown and thus designated as Cancer of Unknown Primary (C.U.P.). For these reasons, the tournament is named the Waeger CUP.
Dan’s diagnosis was ultimately changed to lung cancer. He battled the disease for almost 4 years before passing away March 16, 2009. Through his example, he challenged others to be active in their own lives - to be proactive, to be a participant, to be accountable, and to be willing to make a meaningful difference in the world. Dan’s legacy will live on through NCCF and the Waeger CUP.
The 5th Annual Waeger CUP golf tournament was held October 4, 2009 at Royal Oaks Golf Club in Lebanon, PA. With over 160 golfers, it was the largest tournament to date. As this was the first year that Dan was not golfing with us, it was a difficult one. But, an incredibly successful one – raising more money than any previous year.
The winners this year were NCCF Founder Dan Waeger's foursome, including Michael Diehl, Joe Meier, and Serge Rampmeyer.
NCCF’s main fundraiser is the Waeger CUP. Proceeds from the Waeger CUP and your donations provide deserving young adults fighting cancer with $1,000 scholarships to stay in school! These students have displayed bravery, determination, and unwavering faith in their fight against cancer. Their winning attitudes are infectious and their stories are inspiring.
