Instead of attending his first day of college classes, Christopher was in surgery to remove his thyroid as a result of a papillary thyroid carcinoma diagnosis. After multiple surgeries and radiation treatments during which he lost his voice, Christopher is still surviving with cancer. Recognizing that cancer has allowed him to focus on what he enjoys in life, Christopher is pursuing a degree in Horticulture with a concentration in Landscape Design from AuburnUniversity. He is a member of Alpha Kappa Lambda fraternity and is actively involved in his church as a youth minister. When asked what advice he would give to young adults recently diagnosed with cancer, Christopher approached the question practically. He wrote “Don’t try to hide your emotions or keep them inside. It’s ok to be scared. It’s ok to be mad. It’s ok to laugh and still live life like you would without cancer.”
