Monique grew up in Bronx, NY and is a student at Touro College in New York City, studying to become a physical therapist assistant. She was diagnosed with Diffuse B-Cell Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma in January 2006 and has undergone chemotherapy and radiation therapy. Her studies were interrupted during treatment and Monique has fully supported herself while working as an EMT for seven years, which she also could not do during treatment. Monique’s mother died of breast cancer so this scholarship will help get her back on her feet as she returns to school to complete her degree and fulfill her dream of opening a clinic for children with congenital and terminal disease who require physical therapy.
