Ashley - Thyroid Cancer Survivor PDF Print E-mail

Ashley
is currently studying at Mesa Community College in Mesa, AZ following a long battle with thyroid cancer.  In 2001, at the age of 14, Ashley was diagnosed with thyroid cancer.  Multiple surgeries were done to remove the cancer, but it had already spread to her lungs.  So, Ashley went through radiation therapy to halt the spread of her cancer, but it worsened her lung capacity so much that she was in need of a lung transplant.  After much waiting and many desperate moments, Ashley received a double lung transplant at the end of 2004.  She is now in remission and living with her new lungs while attending college and studying anatomy.
