NCCF Awards 12 Scholarships for the 2009-2010 School Year PDF Print E-mail

It is with great pride that NCCF announces its 2009-20010 scholarship winners!  These 12 young adult survivors embody the winning attitude that NCCF was founded on, and their attitude and determination are an inspiration.  Being diagnosed with cancer is a terrible hand to be dealt, but their ability to display a positive attitude through one of the most trying times of their lives is even more remarkable.

The National Collegiate Cancer Foundation was established to provide services and support to young adults whose lives have been impacted by cancer and who have continued with their education throughout treatment or after their treatment.  Based in the generosity of our donors, we were able to award 12 $1,000 awards this year.

5th Annual Waeger CUP Successful PDF Print E-mail
The 5th Annual Waeger CUP golf tournament was held October 4, 2009 at Royal Oaks Golf Club in Lebanon, PA.  With over 160 golfers, it was the largest tournament to date.  As this was the first year that Dan was not golfing with us, it was a difficult one.  But, an incredibly successful one – raising more money than any previous year.

The winners this year were NCCF Founder Dan Waeger's foursome, including Michael Diehl, Joe Meier, and Serge Rampmeyer.

NCCF’s main fundraiser is the Waeger CUP.
Proceeds from the Waeger CUP and your donations provide deserving young adults fighting cancer with $1,000 scholarships to stay in school!  These students have displayed bravery, determination, and unwavering faith in their fight against cancer.  Their winning attitudes are infectious and their stories are inspiring.

You can learn about this year’s winners by clicking here.

Information about the 2010 Waeger CUP should be posted in Spring 2010.  For questions, please contact This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

This will be the first year that Dan will not be with us. He passed away March 16, 2009 after an almost four year fight with lung cancer. Dan's legacy lives on in the winning attitude he instilled in others by living his life to the fullest, accepting every challenge, never feeling sorry for himself and committing himself to making a difference in the cancer community. The National Collegiate Cancer Foundation is founded on the principles Dan embodied, and will continue his legacy by serving other young adult cancer survivors.

But the Waeger CUP was never about Dan's fight. It is about the 70,000+ young adults who get diagnosed with cancer every year. Cancer is the leading disease killer among 20-39 year-olds. Ssurvival rates for young adults have not increased since 1975. Young adults and adolescents continue to be challenged with countless issues specific to their demographic making them one of the most under-served populations of people affected by cancer. And of the 400 cancer organizations in the U.S., very few to none focus specifically on cancer survivorship issues faced by young adults. NCCF is committed to making a difference in the lives of young adult cancer survivors.

The proceeds from the Waeger CUP and your donations provide deserving young adults fighting cancer with $1,000 scholarships to stay in school! These students have displayed bravery, determination, and unwavering faith in their fight against cancer. Their winning attitudes are infectious and their stories are inspiring. We are in the process of reviewing our 2009/2010 scholarship recipients. Applications doubled this year, creating a bigger need to raise more money and awareness.

So this is where you come in- we need your help! We take all donations, big or small. We accept gift cards & other items for our auction and raffle. We can work with you to enable corporate gifts, and even matching donations. I know that the economy has hit everyone hard this year, but even the smallest of donations will go a long way.

On a personal note, I want to thank all of you for the support you gave Dan along his cancer journey, especially in the last months of his life. Since his death, I've been overwhelmed by the generosity you've shown me, and the comfort you've provided now that my partner in crime is no longer by my side. Although I miss Dan terribly, I continue to be so proud of the way he lived his life, and the impact he still makes on the cancer community. I am personally committed to ensuring that NCCF will live on, and I hope you all will join that effort. I will even continue to play golf, even though I am terrible and will probably vie for the Toilet Bowl trophy this year!

Thank you for all your support!!!

Oh, please try to get your money and registration forms in by September 15th! Contact the Waeger CUP committee at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it with questions.
