Cekeya, Hodgkin's lymphoma survivor Print E-mail

Cekeya
is currently fighting Hodgkin’s lymphoma for the second time.  Her first diagnosis was in 2002, following her first year Xavier University in Louisiana.  She underwent chemotherapy and radiation treatment through fall 2002 and spring 2003 and returned to pursue her degree in Mass Communications in fall 2003.  After returning from a study abroad program in Spain in 2005, her fall semester of her final year of school was abruptly ended by Hurricane Katrina.  Cekeya was devastated, but determined to complete her degree and moved to California to attend school.  Unfortunately, after only one semester she had a recurrence of the lymphoma in spring 2006.  Throughout the spring and summer 2006 she underwent chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and a stem cell transplant.  Although still under treatment, Cekeya has returned to school at the California State University at Dominguez Hills and also working in the financial aid office.  Following her degree, Cekeya hopes to continue studies for an MBA.
